Equipment

Scientific equipment can be fragile and/or bulky. In order to avoid transportation costs and risk of damage, Merops can provide the following facilities and equipment:

  • Easy and direct access to land with diverse habitats (forest, meadows, freshwater, and Mediterranean scrubland).
  • Laboratory for detailed species identification (microscopes) and soil and water chemical analysis.
  • Computers with software and data sharing facilities for data analysis.
  • Library with identification guides.

Equipment

  • Surveying equipment (quadrats, tape measures, pin frames, range finders, clinometers, sampling tubes, bags, etc…).

  • Large animal/mammal survey (camera traps, mammal footprint tunnels, bat detectors, etc…).

  • Invertebrate survey (beating trays, sweep nets, butterfly nets, kick-sampling nets, etc…).

  • GIS and mapping (GPS, wildlife tracking telemetry kit).

  • Observation and recording equipment (binoculars, lenses, telescopes, thermal camera, video cameras, microphones, hydrophone  etc…).

  • Experimentation and live observations (bird feeders, mesh insect cages, tanks, etc…).
